[D]Heart of my [G]own heart, what[D]ever be[Bm]fall
[G]Still be my [D]vision, O [A]Ruler of [D]all
Be Thou my vision, O Lord of my heart
Naught be all else to me, save that Thou art
Thou my best thought, by day or by night
Waking or sleeping, Thy presence my light
Be Thou my wisdom, and Thou my true word
I ever with Thee and Thou with me, Lord
Thou my great Father, and I Thy true son
Thou in me dwelling, and I with Thee one
Riches I heed not, nor man's empty praise
Thou mine inheritance, now and always
Thou and Thou only, first in my heart
High King of heaven, my treasure Thou art
High King of heaven, my victory won
May I reach heaven's joys, O bright heaven's Sun
Heart of my own heart, whatever befall
Still be my vision, O Ruler of all
Naught be all else to me, save that Thou art

About This Hymn
Be Thou My Vision is a traditional Christian hymn of Irish origin. The words are based on an Old Irish poem, “Rop tรบ mo Baile,” attributed to Dallan Forgaill in the 8th century.
The poem was translated from Old Irish to English by Mary E. Byrne in 1905, and versified by Eleanor Hull in 1912. The hymn is traditionally sung to the Irish folk tune “Slane,” named after a hill in County Meath, Ireland.
According to legend, Slane is where St. Patrick defied the High King of Ireland by lighting a fire on Easter Eve in 433 AD, challenging the pagan celebration of spring.
